Tooth Tips

In this post, we will be going over some natural remedies to get those shiny, healthy pearly whites we all dream of!

  1. Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is nothing but swishing or rinsing oil in your mouth, and it has amazing effects!

WHAT TO DO:

  • Take 1/2 - 3/4 tb of sesame, coconut, olive, or sunflower oil and swish in your mouth

  • Spit in paper towel/trashcan, as spitting in sink can cause pipe clogs

  • Rinse/clean mouth with water after spitting

HOW/PRECAUTIONS:

  • Cavities: swish for 10-20 min and spit out

  • Cavities: sesame oil is best, as it has more beneficial properties than others

  • If your teeth are mostly health without a major disease/condition, you may swish for 5-10 min

  • WARNING: Even though you may end up swallowing tiny amounts of oil while swishing, TRY NOT TO SWALLOW TOO MUCH!

  • When spitting, oil should be a thin, milky white substance if done correctly/long enough

  • Not advised for children under 5 yrs

2. Cloves

Containing eugenol, a natural anesthetic that can do wonders for your teeth, they can help with many dental problems!

WHAT TO DO:

  • Purchase cloves and take ~2-4 after every meal

  • You can also massage your teeth with drops of clove oil

HOW/PRECAUTIONS

  • Take 2-4 cloves and chew in mouth, letting extract surround various areas of teeth

  • If you have a cavity, chew clove on that specific tooth

  • Can swallow when clove wears down

  • To use the oil, place few drops on cotton ball and apply on affected tooth (don't overdose teeth in clove oil)

3. Herbal Toothpaste

Instead of toothpastes with fluoride, a herbal one is the way to go! Many store toothpastes have fluoride, which even though is effective in killing bad bacteria, also kills the good bacteria necessary to fight the bad.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 tsp dried peppermint

  • 2 tsp charcoal powder

  • 1 1/2 tsp sea salt

  • 2 tsp turmeric powder

  • 2 tsp clove powder

  • 2 tsp neem leaf powder

  • 2 tsp triphala powder (a blend of gooseberry, inknut, and bedda nut; triphala powder can be found on amazon)

HOW TO:

  • You may increase the quantity of powders, mix them together, and store in container

  • Every morning, take a sufficient amount of powder and mix in a liquid to make a paste (ex: water, coconut/sesame/olive/sunflower oil)

  • Brush normally as if it were toothpaste

4. Alum

Alum has extremely strong antibacterial properties, and this may seem unbelievable, but ayurvedic practitioners even say rinsing with alum water can even tighten a wiggling tooth in the long run!

PROCEDURE:

  • Buy/order a block of pure alum (must be real)

  • Take 1/2 cup of water and put it in a bowl

  • Rub the alum block around the water in the bowl for 30 sec, infusing water with alum's properties

  • Take as much water as you can in your mouth

  • Swish in mouth for 5-10 min (more severe problem = longer)

  • Spit in sink

  • Once spitting DO NOT drink water or rinse mouth with regular water for 45-60 min (minimizes benefit)
